Welcome to MusicEdTech!

Here's some great music

Coming to you from...

VANDERCOOK COLLEGE OF MUSIC

(right across the street from the home of the world's finest baseball team, the Chicago White Sox.  Ok... at least the city's finest!)

This is a wiki site that we will use as a home base for our coursework this summer.  It will incorporate several examples of the technology we will learn to use and integrate into our teaching in a meaningful way.

Thanks for a great Summer!  Best wished to you all.  You did GREAT WORK this semester... so let's share it!

Good Morning!  I'm listing a few cool tools and helpful sites below...

Check out this useful flickr searching tool - flickr storm!  This makes searching for images and in particular Creative Commons images really easy!

The notes for Mr. Jakes' presentation on effective PowerPoint are here.

Final Presentations Information

A couple thoughts about the presentation...

  • Presentations will be the last week of the course (not next Tuesday and Thursday).  If someone wants to present early, they're welcome to.
  • The following link was a separate assignment once upon a time.  It may be helpful for you to incorporate some of the ideas/questions from this assignment into your presentation.
  • Time limits say 5-10 minutes in length.  I would think it would be longer than 5 minutes, but please don't go much more than 10 minutes... 15 max.

This week...

  • More audio fun with Audacity
  • More ideas about formatting PowerPoint
  • Talking about how this all relates to curriculum
  • Google Docs

What we did last Tuesday...

Ok...

We've been introduced to a couple big tools that will allow you to share content with your students:

-Wikis

-Blogs

We've even started to put content into them:

-Google Calendars

-Web links

-YouTube videos

-Picture galleries

Today I'd like to do several small things that hopefully will inspire some more uses for this technology:

-More on wikis

-File Hosting

-iPod stuff

-MP3 vs. ACC vs. MP4 vs. ??????

-Audacity

-Gabcast

For Thursday... bring in a favorite CD or MP3 file that you wouldn't mind listening to and working with for awhile.  We are going to do a musical form project with it!

You're probably interested in seeing the syllabus for this course.  Ok, here it is!

Best wishes to you this summer, and beyond, of course! I'm looking forward to working with all of you!

-Bill

The survey we took the other day is hosted on group-surveys.com.  It's really useful, and free!  I've also used polldaddy.com and several other sites.  Do a Google seach for "free survey".

I've started updating the 'Notes' section of this site with a summary of what we've been doing, as well as important "stuff to know".

Check out Bob's Tech Tips!

What follows below is the beginnings of a list of items that you'll hopefully find interesting as the course goes along.  Rather than remove it until we get there, I'll peak your interest a bit...

Where to find Mr. Jakes! (You'll hear me talk about him a lot this summer, and he's not even paying me to do so!)

IDave Jakes is doing some wonderful things with educational technology.  Here's a direct link to some of his resources... basically rendering me unimportant and useless to you...
