Technology Use – Teachers vs. Students

We discussed how we use technology in comparison to our students.  We decided that there are indeed some differences... and some similarities too!  Here are the results of the survey you took:

SURVEY RESULTS

Web 2.0

We started discussing what Web 2.0 is.  In short, it is a way for people - everyone - to contribute their ideas to the Internet and the world.  You no longer need to know how to "program".  The strength of this global collaboration is the ability to tag information so it can be sorted and searched.

RSS - Allows you to subscribe to the content you are interested in without needing to visit several websites.  We're using Google's iGoogle to subscribe to RSS feeds, but you can use a number of services.  To get started, you need a Google Account!!

Blog - A web log that allows you to publish your ideas about... anything!

Wiki - A shared workspace/website, allowing several people to collaborate, edit, modify, add/remove content, etc.

Social Network - MySpace, Facebook, etc.  Social networks allow for just that... networking around a common interest or experience.  There are many more specialized social networks as well beyond those listed here.

Podcast - Started as an audio file broadcast, now often includes video.  Much like a blog, but in AV form.  Strength is in the subscription capability (RSS).

We started blogging!!  You need to know your audience:  parents, students, administation, community.

Start simple, start small... But have SOMETHING there for people to look at!

We used blogger.com.  To get started, you need a Google Account!
