Glossary of Terms
The following is a list of terms that we have either discussed and used in class, or are about to. Feel free to add definitions, clarifications, examples, etc. You may also add additional terms of use to the class.
accompaniment software: Band in A Box and Garage Band are examples
Audacity: Free audio editing software. Basic, but very powerful and useful. Basically can turn a lapotop into a recording studio. Plug a microphone in, and record and edit track uopn trak. Add effects too>
Band-In-A-Box:
blog: "a web log", basically a more interactive webpage with many more capabilities and features
Blogger: a free program to set up and run blogs through
CD ripping: the practice of copying file(s) from a CD for the purpose of storage elsewhere
del.icio.us: a "social bookmarking" website that bookmarks favorite web addresses via a separate website rather than your local browser
digital audio software:
Facebook: A social utility that connects you with the people around you

Google: a company that is taking over the technological world, originally a search engine. Went public recently at 250 per share. Sounds like a lot huh? .... Now it is over 500 per share!
hypermedia:
iGoogle: a "front page" or "home" for your computer, news readers, rolling calendars, news feeds, blogs and other info can be brought TO YOU on your desktop here
MIDI: Musical Instrument Digital Interface
MySpace: popular autobiographical website, open to the general public
notation software: software designed to create and print sheet music. Sibelius and Finale are examples, also PrintMusic!
PBwiki: a free program that helps create and maintain wikis
Prodikeys: a midi keyboard and computer keyboard in one. (product info here)

SmartMusic (product of Coda Music): accompaniment software, includes files for all beginning method books and a large solo literature library. Also has the ability to record and evaluate exercises. $100 subscription fee for first school computer, $25 per additional computer, and student home computer. Students may use program at home and e-mail results to teacher. (product info here )
streaming audio/video:
tags: keywords that help locate blogs by subject areas
Technorati: one way to search all blogs for information, using certain tags/keywords
Web 2.0: a term for the way the WWW has evolved to enable feeds to bring pertinent info to you when it's updated
wiki:
YouTube: a site that compiles and allows you to download and play short movie clips on all imaginable subjects, anyone with basic technology can create movies here
TeacherTube: Check it out. If you are like me and teach in a district that blocks YouTube, this might get through.
