Technology Assessment  and Implementation Plan Project

In preparation to apply your newly formed technological skills to your teaching, I'd like you to first do some research about technology in your school as it stands today.  Then, based on that information, I'd like you to develop a plan to implement technology integration into your curriculum.  This plan may be just for you, or may (very likely) include members of your department, dept. chairperson, technology support/administrators, building administrators and so on.

 

So...

 

Start with the following...

 

I'd like you to write a summary of technology use in your district (or school) that includes the following information:

 

  • What is your school or district technology plan?  Do you have one?  A philosophy?
  • Does your school or district have any learning goals or building goals that relate to technology use?
  • What is the extent of technology access at your school for students?  For teachers?  What software is available? What hardware (projectors, printers, scanners, etc.)? What Internet resources are available?  If you have specific music technology available include that here as well.  Where is all this technology located (lab, classroom, library, etc.)?  When is it available?
  • Does your school or district have a website?  What kind of information is on it?  Who is it geared towards?  Does your curriculum have a presence on it?  Who controls it?  Who can edit it?
  • How does your school handle student access to technology?  Do they have accounts?  Is there Internet use monitored/restricted?  Is yours?
  • Do you have a curricular technology consultant in your building or district?  (This person is in charge of helping you USE technology to TEACH, not just someone who's in charge of FIXING THE COMPUTER WHEN IT'S BROKEN)
  • What is your school or district policy on student use of personal technology (iPods, laptops, cellphones, pda's)?

 

Write this summary in paragraph format, proper spelling, gramar and all that.

 

Once this is complete I'm going to ask you (not yet) about how you hope to use the technology that exists in your building in your teaching.  I also want you think about what you want to do that you can't currently do.  The next step will be do explain what, why, and how you want to do it in such a way as to get the support of the people in your building that you NEED support from.
